| Steve Shaw passed away at the age
of 44 in the early hours of Sunday 30th January after losing his
brave fight with Cancer.
Everyone involved with the Old Rutlishians football section
knew Steve - he was a larger than life character with many friends.
He started playing for the OR's in 1994 and originally played
on pitch scoring 53 goals in the process. Steve took much delight
in telling the whole bar how he had scored another '30 yarder!'
In December 1997 Steve decided to play in goal for the 3rd team,
a team which he captained for several seasons. He made many appearances
in goal for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th XI's and in recent seasons
for the Vets team. He was determined to make 300 Club Appearances
(he reached 285) and in his quest to reach this milestone he made
short cameo appearances for the 3rds and Vets as recently as December.
Steve was a staunch clubman who enjoyed holding court with his
team mates in the OR's bar post-match. Never one to sit back,
he regularly organised Quiz nights at Poplar Road and supported
most club events, winning Clubman of the Year in 2000.
Steve had a wide circle of friends through his time in the Army
and Post Office and through his social endeavours at the OR's,
numerous pubs in Wimbledon and the Cenward club.
Our thoughts and sympathy are with Steve's family and close
friends.
Steve requested that any donations be made to the 'Roy Castle
Lung Cancer Foundation'. Donations can be left at Frederick Paine
Funeral Directors, Crown Lane, Morden or alternatively can be
given to Gavin Lennard or any other Football Committee member
for forwarding on your behalf. |
