And the winner is.... Steve Nicola! Hooray for me! For the second season running I've claimed the Dream Team title by a single point winning £65, with Phil Lines taking £35 for being runner up and Wayne Alderman getting £20 for his third place finish. Full details here.

April 25th 2008 |
Nigel ‘Waffle’ Watford may still possibly reach his phenomenal 500th club appearance this season.
Currently on 498, Waffle is not available to hit his 499 appearance for the 3rd XI this weekend owing to other commitments. However, there is a possibility the Vets may have a final fixture on Sunday 4th May as Vets Manager Lee ‘Oggy’ Caffell is working very hard to assist ‘The Waff’ in his quest.
This would also mean that Waffle would need to feature in the final 1st XI game (if practical) at Chiddingfold on the Saturday 3rd May.
The practicalities of all of this will clearly depend on results this weekend as Chiddingfold are faced with an equally important ‘must win’ game if they are to avoid relegation. |
April 18th 2008 |
First team captain Richard Lines' long term injury is a suspected cruciate tear according to a specialist. An MRI in two weeks will confirm whether or not this is the case and if surgery is needed. Hopefully 'The Beast' will be back in action for pre-season.
|
March 28th 2008 |
Phil 'HF' Rea and Daragh Corrigan look set to miss this weekend's action, if not more.
Marc 'CJ' Hawley is only fit enough for the bench and manager Graham Clayton will await a late update from maestro Andy Flanagan as the Ruts growing injury list continues to bulge.
Young Lewis Kelly looks set to start his first 1st team game after impressing in several substitute appearances.
|
March 11th 2008 |
Steve Nash's MRI scan revealed that his knee does not have cruciate damage. The damage was a small fracture and muscular damage. With extra physio and gym work we should see him back pre-season.
We are awaiting updates from Richard Lines, Daragh Corrigan, Marc 'CJ' Hawley and Paul Skinner.
Phil 'HF' Rea is also unavailable this weekend. Trigger could be working?
Manager Graham Clayton is awaiting confirmation on whether late signing Darren Long (formerly of Shalford and Westfield) is available to come into the squad for his Ruts debut. |
March 4th 2008 |
Well done to Boo-Boo's Barmy Army for reaching the Teck Intermediate Cup Final which will be against Surrey Fire on Wednesday 16th April at Molesey FC. All support welcome!
Despite fielding up to four teams in the Kingston and District League during the 1990s, the club have not reached this particular final before, although the First team did win the Teck Senior Cup in 1996 ( click here for a match report and photos). |
February 25th 2008 |
Midfielder Paul Skinner is in hospital following a very serious accident on Friday night. He has since had facial surgery but is being kept sedated in intensive care for up to two weeks.
Our thoughts are with him and his family at this distressing time. |
February 24th 2008 |
| Goalkeeper Nick Wells dislocated his knee in Saturday's Reserve match at Liphook and will miss the rest of the season, which is yet another injury blow to the Ruts. We wish him a full and speedy recovery. |
February 11th 2008 |
Steve Nash had his MRI scan on Saturday and will receive the long awaited news on the extent of the damage later on this week.
Ryan Stephens has had his operation and plans to be back for the start of next season.
First team captain Richard Lines is still limping around. His injury-hit season could well be finished and follows his problems last season when he broke his arm twice. We hope he responds to treatment and is able to return before the end of this campaign - here's to an injury free 2008/09 Skip.
|
January 14th 2008 |
Congratulations to club legend Dave Murphy who scored his 200th Ruts goal for the Vets yesterday. Dave was a first team regular in his younger days, impressing with some excellent displays up front or on the right wing. He was First team Player of the Year in 1999 and Reserve Player of the Year in 1996 and is now joint second in the all-time scoring charts behind Ian 'Boony' Lennard.
|
January 14th 2008 |
Commiserations to striker James Fenton whose broken ankle is likely to keep him out of action for the rest of the campaign. He joins fellow strikers Neil Whyte, Ryan Stephens and Adam 'Feza' Clark on the sidelines.
|
January 8th 2008 |
Young Ryan Stephens is still limping around pending a Doctor's report and we are awaiting further updates from Neil Whyte and Richard Lines.
Daragh Corrigan joins Marc 'CJ' Hawley on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury on Saturday. The dymanic left sided duo are great when they play together down the Ruts left hand side although one or both of them are usually injured!
|
January 7th 2008 |
Influential First Team midfielder Steve Nash finally received an NHS prognosis on his knee injury last week, with the specialist confirming that he has cruciate ligament damage whilst referring him for an MRI scan.
|
January 2nd 2008 |
With neither the 2s or 3s having a match this weekend, they will play each other in a friendly on Saturday to boost their fitness levels after three weeks off.
The 3s will be looking for revenge after narrowly losing a similar match this time last year when they lost 2-1 after some dodgy refereeing decisions!
|
January 2nd 2008 |
Everyone at the club wishes the best of luck to young defender Josh Allen who has relocated to Cornwall for the forseeable future.
You are welcome back anytime Josh, don't be a stranger! |
December 30th 2007 |
|
The tubby blokes overcame their follicly-challenged counterparts 3-2 on Sunday. Kevin Foster (2) and Dwayne Mitchell (1) scored for the Fatties (despite being two of the slimmest blokes in the club!) and Nigel Bennett (2) replied for the Slapheads.
Gary Langton was on top form with some great one liners and shiny custard coloured boots!
Thanks to Boo and Marc Hawley for reffing — it was a good turnout and ensured the bar was well used for the afternoon.
|
December 28th 2007 |
This Sunday December 30th with a 1pm ko at Poplar Road. See Boo-Boo or Skilts if you want to play.
|
December 28th 2007 |
From 7pm-1am — Members, family and friends are all welcome to see in 2008 locally. Bar extension until 1am with music from the Shed's very own 'Skilts'.
|
December 27th 2007 |
Graham Clayton has included new recruit Paul Skinner in the First team squad for this weekend's league match with Elm Grove. This followed an impressive performance from Skinner in the Boxing Day friendly win over Merton FC.
|
December 26th 2007 |
First team captain Richard Lines' knee injury means he's definitely sidelined for some weeks to come. Meanwhile Vice Captain Phil 'HF' Rea is Sweden bound with his good lady wife Sofia this weekend, which presents manager Graham Clayton with the question of who to appoint as skipper for the all important league clash with Elm Grove.
|
December 17th 2007 |
The transfer window is now open. Managers can change up to three players without breaking their £40m budget and must tell Steve Nicola their changes by 2pm on Saturday 29th December (when the First team play Elm Grove). Click here for full details. |
December 12th 2007 |
Dan Mahoney has reluctantly had to withdraw from Clayton's squad indefinitely owing to a career and house move to north of the river (Kilburn).
Dan has made an impressive impact in his few months with the club this season and will be missed. He will hopefully assist the squad occasionally to cover in emergencies — good luck Dan, we hope to see you back permanently in the navy blue at some time in the future. |
December 12th 2007 |
The rumours that our once formidable Captain Richard Lines is turning into Darren 'Sicknote' Anderton have been quashed by the big lad himself. In a recent grimacing statement he simply said: "I'll be back"...
|
December 7th 2007 |
Congratulations and well done to Luke Creates and fiance Hollie Horwood on the arrival of their baby boy Archie Frank Creates, born at 8.35pm on December 6th. Mother and baby are doing well. |
December 3rd 2007 |
| Congratulations to Dave D'Rozario on his Friday night engagement to girlfriend Nicola. Rumours of a May 2009 wedding are afoot although make sure it's the end of May Dave in case of a fixture backlog! |
November 29th 2007 |
The club would like to congratulate former player Tom Hughes on his continued footballing development. Young Hughesy broke into the Sutton United first team this week following his assured displays in the club's Reserve team this season (amazingly, the disciplinary-challenged but very likeable youngster had been Reserve team captain for the 'U's!)
Tom played in the FA Trophy draw at Dover Athletic last Saturday and helped the team to a 1-0 home replay win on Tuesday.
|
November 28th 2007 |
Daragh Corrigan is likely to be out until after Christmas following a recurrence of his groin strain. Frustratingly for both himself and the club this followed an impressive run of recent form following earlier injury setbacks.
Kevin Foster is also ruled out for a few weeks following his innocuous collision with a team mate last weekend.
Talented left back Marc Hawley's injury woes also continue. Last weekend's Reserve team run-out was intended to be a springboard for a prompt First team return. However, the newly named 'Calamity Jane' (or 'CJ' for short) incurred a fresh injury to his back following earlier ankle injuries. (Even El Pres had a longer playing career on the booze and tobacco diet Marcus, so look after yourself better!)
First team 'keeper Phil Lines is sidelined pending a diagnosis for the leg injury he incurred 2 weeks ago.
We wish all of them speedy returns to the playing fields.
|
November 23rd 2007 |
Captain Richard Lines has also withdrawn from the squad for Saturday's trip to Liphook with strained stomach muscles (fat!?) while Lawrence Ennis is unavailable owing to work commitments.
|
November 21st 2007 |
First team keeper Phil Lines (shin injury) and adaptable dynamo Andy Flanagan (knee) are both major doubts for Clayton's squad this weekend.
Marc Hawley may possibly be ready to have a runout in the Reserves whilst promising youngster Ryan Stephens is ruled out indefinitely, along with the influential Steve Nash who is likely to be miss the remainder of the season.
We are awaiting updates from Neil Whyte (ankle) and Adam Clarke (emergency surgery) to see how they fair with their respective medical reports.
The infamous Lee 'Trigger' Poulter's availability continues to be erratic, owing to work commitments.
On the plus side Clayton hopes to welcome back Scott Ryder in the New Year, although disappointingly former captain Alan Whiter is likely to miss the whole campaign owing to family commitments.
|
October 31st 2007 |
Marc Hawley has now been ruled out for six weeks owing to an ankle ligament injury - so we'll see him back in about a fortnight!?
Daragh Corrigan was hit by a car (whilst sober?) and has a bruised body after landing on the bonnet - sounds nasty, although hopefully he'll be back soon.
Adam 'Feza' Clarke is in hospital with Glandular Fever and may need his spleen removed. Clearly this can be extremely serious and we wish him a full, safe and speedy recovery.
Dave D'Rozario and Trigger are both ruled out of the Tadworth clash on Saturday. Rumour is that top scorer D'Rozario is romancing in Venice, whilst Trigger is working in Portsmouth (I know where I'd rather be!) |
October 23rd 2007 |
Promising youngster Ryan Stephens will be out of action for at least a month after damaging his knee in the Reserve team's Surrey Cup exit last Saturday.
Phil Rea may also be rested following a flare up of his old injury during the First team's defeat at Milford.
|
October 22nd
2007 |

Full rules and player values are here.

October 22nd 2007 |
|
First team left back Marc Hawley joined the Ruts growing injury list after dropping a car jack on his foot on Friday (clumsy boy!) His foot is quite bruised and swollen although hopefully not broken.
Michael Lines sustained an ankle injury playing on Sunday and is also a doubt for next weekend.
Hawley and Lines join Steve Nash (knee), Dan Mahoney (knee) and Neil Whyte (ankle) on the sidelines.
|
October 15th
2007 |
Dan Mahoney missed the Shottermill & Haslemere match after picking up a knee injury playing squash last week. Manager Clayton is keenly awaiting an update on the severity of the injury.
Neil Whyte limped off the pitch after just 10 minutes action in the second half of the Ruts win at Shottermill & Haslemere after being on the wrong end of a clumsy challenge. Whyte's ankle was x-rayed on Sunday morning and although it isn't broken, it is badly sprained. He is likely to be out for at least several weeks.
We wish both players speedy recoveries.
|
October 15th
2007 |
Congratulations to Nigel Watford, who scored his 100th goal for the club against Maori Park Reserves on Saturday October 14th. |
October 12th
2007 |
Martin Lambden of Woking Park FC took some photos of our recent league match and kindly gave us permission to show them on this site. Click here to see them. |
October 10th
2007 |
Boo Boo will be running a Bonus Ball competition every Saturday. Numbers can be bought from behind the bar for £2 each Saturday for that evening's draw, with the winner receiving £50. |
October 5th
2007 |
Fantasy Football is back for another season! This year's competition will start on October 27th, so you have three weeks to study the prices and form and email me your team.
Entry costs £10 per team. Half of the money collected will go to the Football Section and the other half will form the prize fund, which will be awarded to the top three managers. This is a good way to support your club and have a bit of fun at the same time, so please consider entering a team.
Full rules and player values are here. |
September 26th
2007 |
Influential First team midfield maestro
Steve Nash sustained a knee injury playing on Sunday and is definitely
ruled out of manager Clayton's plans for the foreseeable future.
In a conversation with Clayton, Nash explained that the hospital
advised him that they couldn't even take an x-ray until the severe
swelling had gone down. Therefore, Nashy will have to return to
hospital in a week or so to establish the severity of the injury.
From everyone at the club, we wish you a speedy recovery Steve
and trust it isn't too serious for you!
|
September 21st
2007 |
Paul Hull has returned to the Ruts
after his very brief spell at Colliers Wood and is in tomorrow's
squad for the match with Chiddingfold.
Manager Graham Clayton said: "I am delighted he has returned,
but he will now have to work to get his place back."
|
September 17th
2007 |
Joel Rogers is considering a return
to football by linking up with his long term pal Lee 'Trigger'
Poulter at Poplar Road. Former Rutlish schoolboy Rogers has led
a journeyman career which has included Colchester United, Heybridge
Swifts, Epsom & Ewell, Raynes Park Vale, Sutton Utd, Banstead
Athletic (on loan) and an unpronounceable French second division
side!
A Ruts footballing career is for life, not just for Christmas.
|
September 13th
2007 |
Congratulations to Leon Trowbridge
who recently made his 400th appearance for the Ruts in the friendly
against Merton FC. He is now closing in on club captain Darren
Knott in the Hall of Fame. Knotty
is on 404 appearances and sits in 3rd place. |
September 11th
2007 |
This season's Fantasy Football will
start around mid-October, giving you all a few weeks to study
the form and pick your teams. Player values and entry forms will
appear in the next week or so - watch this space. |
September 11th
2007 |
First team manager Graham Clayton
will have to ring the changes as Steve Nash, Nick Raggett, Mick
Lines, Kevin Foster and Ryan Brown all serve one match bans this
coming weekend for offences committed last season.
|
September 10th
2007 |
Paul Hull has decided to join Combined
Counties Premier Division side Colliers Wood Utd, linking up with
one of his old managers from his Tooting & Mitcham days.
Hull has scored 124 goals in just over 150 appearances for the
ORs who he joined as a young buck fresh from Rutlish School. He
then spent several seasons with Tooting & Mitcham before rejoining
the Ruts linking up with then Reserve team manager Graham Clayton.
Clayton's appointment as First team manager this year saw Hull
gain a first team slot and impress sufficiently enough to gain
this new opportunity. "Losing Paul is a disappointment,"
said Clayton, "but we have the squad depth to cope and it
is a good chance for one of our younger players to establish themselves."
Good luck Paul, we wish you every success and look forward to
seeing you back at Poplar Road sometime in the future.
|
September 10th
2007 |
Thanks to a 50% donation from the
Football Foundation we have brand new goals at Poplar Road. They
will be christened next Saturday when the First team host Unis
Old Boys in the League Cup.
Thanks to Roland Heal for his efforts in securing the funding
required.
|
September 10th
2007 |
ORAFC would like to congratulate their
Cricketing Cousins on their excellent season. The Saturday 1st
XI gained promotion, the Saturday 2nd XI won their League and
the Sunday 1st XI won the Sunday Old Boys League. |
September 10th
2007 |
Congratulations to long-time OR player
Jamie Shawki, who got married on Saturday 9th September. Best
of luck for the future from all at ORAFC.
|
September 1st 2007 |
Nigel Watford, who tops our appearance
board with a phenomenal 481 appearances, has moved to Somerset.
Despite his move to Cider Valley 'Waffle' is determined to reach
at least 500 games for the club. In a recent email to El Pres,
Nigel said "I'm on the road to the club on Saturday with
my boots in the boot! Hopefully Boo or Danny has selected me."
Good luck with the new home Nigel and let's ensure you reach
the massive milestone during 2007/08.
|
September 1st 2007 |
Ruts manager Graham Clayton has named
Richard Lines as 1st XI captain. When Phil 'HF' Rea returns from
his wedding absence on the 22nd of September (probably worn out
and overweight!) he will be vice captain.
Lines' return to the fold follows two broken arms during the
last campaign and a broken toe this pre-season. Renowned for his
competitive and physical style we hope his recent bad luck with
bones improves this season. Drink plenty of milk Rich!
|
August 15th 2007 |
Ruts manager Graham Clayton is delighted
to have signed top quality defender Lawrence Ennis for the forthcoming
campaign. Lawrence holds the appearance record for Walton Casuals
(235) and links up with former Casuals teammate Dave D’Rozario
who joined us last season. |
August 15th 2007 |
For family reasons long serving club
legend Alan Whiter will miss the start of the season. The Player
of the Year in 2003 and 2004 will hopefully be back to bolster
Clayton's squad sometime in the Autumn. |
August 15th 2007 |
Our best wishes go to another long
serving club legend, Phil Rea, who marries his Swedish Sweetheart
Sofia Johnsson in her homeland on Saturday 1st September. HF Rea
plans to be available for selection on Saturday 22nd September.
Our thoughts go out to the female population of Merton Park -
name that tune!
‘And a hundred lonely housewives clutch empty milk
bottles to their hearts
Hanging out their old love letters on the line to dry
It's enough to make you stop believing when tears come fast and
furious
In a town called malice’
|
August 15th 2007 |
A few ex-players have returned to
Poplar Road for this season and for the past few weeks have been
working hard on the training pitch with the rest of the lads (except
Erol!) So welcome back to James Bone, Billy Finnis, Phil &
Mike Lines and Nick Wells.
